phone home? not without my cell...

today was a blur--i think it has something to do with my late night rave with maeve--her chosen awake time of the day was from 9:30 p.m.--1:15 a.m....every minute that clicked by past 11 pm was killing me! what a longgggg night! thank goodness that the networks now provide all their shows online so i spent some time catching up on them and a little more time on facebook's neverending movie quiz--very entertaining. maeve is currently storing up energy for another late night date as i type...i probably should go take a nap!

here is a picture of my new phone which i am anxiously awaiting...i'm really not a phone person but i miss miss miss my little cell--R.I.P. i'm excited to meet my new pink phone which should arrive in a few days! woo!

the only other exciting tidbit is that today i sold all my maternity clothes on ebay. goodbye forgiving waistbands and extra long big belly covering shirts--it's time to downsize if you know what i mean...now i've got some incentive (i.e. no clothes!) to losing some of maeve's leftovers...

yay for friday!

so excited today is friday--can't wait to have my husband back for the weekend! thank goodness for my mother in law who has wrangled my little amelie while i'm glued to the couch with maeve! bravo!
some things i've learned this week
1. i will never be able to get enough of that newborn smell....maeve is absolutely delicious, i am so thankful for her!
2. i have gone through a disturbing amount of wipes these past two weeks--two in diapers = many trips to target for supplies!
3. keep sippy cups away from your cell phone
4. the mailman/ups man will always come during nap time and ring the doorbell
5. amelie is obsessed with barbie...i don't understand it
6. yes, you can be too tired to blog...i'm done
yawn
stretch
narcolepsy

i can do it myself!!

at one time or another (or every day) a mother of a toddler has heard the words--"i can do it myself!" from the lips of their little ones. amelie loves to help take care of the baby but wants to do everything herself--that means hold the baby without mama's help (even though at any given moment she may get distracted by a toy or the wind or something and jump off the couch without giving a care to where the baby may land).
my dear sweet amelie is fairly certain that she can also feed the baby herself. now, this wouldn't be a problem if i were bottle feeding but as i am breastfeeding there are some decided problems with her plan to help. yesterday, i was on the couch feeding the baby and amelie became very indignant and said, "mama, i can do it myself!" and proceeded to lift her shirt and pointed to the "feeding equipment." oh man, that was the best laugh i have had in a long time! i needed that! i lovingly explained that only mommy's can feed the baby this way and she said, "mommy, i have boobies, i can do it myself!" the mind of toddlers, it's the best!
meanwhile, in baby land, maeve has rebelled against all forms of sleeping. we've had 2 long nights (that's what i get for congratulating her on her really good night!) and are in for 2 more long nights since daddy is m.i.a. it's a good thing she's delicious because i'm starting to lose my appetite for all night soirees.

maeve's hit a growth spurt, i've hit the "wall" and i think amelie is a vampire

last night was a longggggggggggg night. i think maeve has hit some two week growth spurt and decided mama was an all night buffet. so tired.......those days of postpartum euphoria/adrenaline have worn off so now i'm just plain tired. amelie went to bed well last night (miracle!) but woke up at 4 so since i was on maeve duty-daddy was on amelie duty (he totally hit the jack pot on that one since she SLEEPS! usually...).

the children have officially taken over every second of our lives and i'm about ready to mutiny. ha!

it's funny how much changes in such a relatively short amount of time. yesterday at the birthday party we attended i couldn't help but think back to just 3 short years ago when all of us were child-less and working and had free time and slept in on saturdays...3 years later we all have 2 kids and are tired and older...

anyways, having a family is a good thing--just a tiring thing.

two items of note:
* maeve's nasty belly button thingy fell off and left a disgusting mass underneath that scared us so we called the doctor and asked what was considered worrisome. it seems as though we shouldn't be concerned but i don't foresee bikinis in maeve's future.

* amelie has tourettes (sp?) or something. she thinks it's hilarious now to scream out "POOP!" at the top of her lungs. screaming poop doesn't mean she has pooped or will poop...she just likes saying the word...

darnit

* my stinkin' awesome stroller doesn't fit in my slightly less awesome car.

* maeve slept in 2 hr. intervals last night--4 would be better but 2 is livable

* when did fall become winter? btw--was it ever fall b/c i think i missed it.

* my husband got me the most beautiful roses today and the yummiest chocolate milk shake last night. i <3 him.

* amelie loves her baby sister--it's pretty much the cutest thing ever.

* i have a small crush on the boy from pushing daisies...he's dreamy.

* i haven't scrapbooked in like 3 months. i'm scared to see how much catching up i have to do! i don't think it's going to happen any time soon...

* i love how newborns live all curled up in a cozy little ball.

* i love how toddlers make fishy faces, give fabulous kisses and learn dance routines like no one's business.

* our heat is finally working--YAY!

the sockless wonder

things are going well for the webers--i got slightly less sleep last night than i had hoped for (the big breastfeeding downfall--no one to pinch hit for nighttime feedings, although steve did offer to try....yuck haha!). i got a fab nap this afternoon though so that has recharged the batteries a bit! steve is an awesome help--he's been doing all amelie related duty and taking her out and treating her like a queen which is further cementing him in her heart as the fun parent! here's another picture of her famous little miss cheesecake smile!

in other news, maevey baby had her first bath by mama today--i learned:
a. amelie is totally jealous of me giving the baby baths
b. she thinks the tiny baby tub is HERS (thank goodness daddy was available to give her a bath in the big girl tub....)
c. i am woefully out of practice at handling a newborn, water, towels, etc..
d. it's hard to wash a baby before their gross belly button thingy falls off
(btw maeve's belly button thingy is HUGE, i asked the doctor about it b/c it's gross and weird, she assured me it was big but normal, i'd post a picture but that seems an invasion of privacy =-)

maeve also shares an interesting condition with her sister--it's called, "i have one big foot and one little foot" syndrome. amelie's right foot is like half a size larger then her left foot and maeve's right foot is her small one! i didn't figure this out until about 3 days of trying to keep socks on her--the sock on the tiny foot refuses to stay on. i've documented this phenomenon with pictures....

steven's family is coming over tonight for a visit so i think i'll brush my hair--yep, that's really as exciting as my day as gotten! ha! i'm soaking up the rest and relaxation as soon i will be helper-free and on my own! yikes!

party animal

she's a real party animal--can't you tell? after sleeping most of the day away yesterday maeve decided to have an all night rave--as during those pregnant nights--and stay up from 11-3--woo! she's really precious and hasn't really cried at all but with those big newborn eyes staring at you it's hard to put her down and sleep even if she is peaceful! have i told you lately how happy i am? i am ;)

points to ponder
* when will i stop telling myself to do a kick count every time i lay down?

* does amelie realize that the baby is human? she is always asking to "pet" her...

* poor amelie is confused--i keep going to change her diaper since i'm now in "change a million diapers a day newborn mode" and she always looks offended like, "geez ma, you know, i only need like 3 diaper changes a day..."

* has anyone seen my husband? we're on swing shifts and i miss him.

* having other people deliver you dinner is the best kind of pampering--we had the best stuffed shells ever last night thanks to miss mandy

* i slept through House last night, darnit

sorry i'm not returning your calls....

we're home--big YAY! i slept about a grand total of 6 hours the entire time i was in the hospital--bleh! i'm glad we're here and can start the long process of settling in. here are some pictures of my maevey beans--isn't she lovely? i'm head over heels for her... say a little prayer for my sweet amelie girl who is wondering why mama can't pick her up and why baby swings weren't made for 30 pound toddlers... more updates to come as i become more human =-)

when nesting goes awry...

let me set the scene:
yesterday amelie and i had such a picture perfect morning--it was totally the best and we came home and she took a fabulous 2.5 hour nap (with only 1 crib jumping incident). steven got home from work BEFORE she woke up, we ate dinner and he whisked her away for almost 3 hours of park/play/icecream time--which was wonderful at first but then i started to miss them and he wasn't answering the cell phone (it was dead)--this is when the nesting instinct took over and took a decidedly morbid turn...

i decided to sort all of amelie's clothes (and i mean ALL) in pre arranged, mommy-approved outfits so that in case i die during childbirth, she would still be well dressed. HA! i'm not sure why, but this was vitally important to me last night. i also set aside a funeral dress for amelie and told steve that maeve didn't have to mourn because she wouldn't have known me as well...i'm pretty sure this isn't normal, but i feel better now and know that i'll have a well dressed toddler even if i'm not around.

on another note, less morbid but still slightly disturbing...
i found the solution for crib jumping--sadly, it's corporal punishment. insert big sad mommy face here! amelie only jumped 2 times last night b/c when she did i smacked her hand and told her to stay in her crib and go to sleep. urgh, worst sadness ever. she kept popping out the door saying, "hi mommy!" and no, i didn't slap her hand hard enough for her to cry--she just looked confused and stayed in her crib--which was a good thing even though i stayed awake for an hour crying b/c i had to be mean. hopefully the lesson will sink in and it won't have to be repeated! it's hard to be the mama sometimes (especially when daddy gets to be the nice/fun/park loving/ice cream buying man of the hour!).

well, enough amelie news! it's maeve's turn and we've made full term! go girl! (seriously, get going so i can hold you soon!)
Week 37
Your Baby's Development

Now Baby weighs almost 6.5 pounds and her total length is about 21 inches long. But she hasn't stopped growing yet; she'll continue to develop about a half-ounce of fat a day. Still, overall growth does slow from here on out. That's fortunate, since there is very little available space left in the womb as it is.

Here are a few final developments taking place in week 37:

Baby's immune system continues to strengthen. Her immune system will continue to get stronger after birth, and will not be completely functional until early adulthood.
Baby can now grasp with her fingers as dexterity improves

somedays never end

yesterday was a longgggggggggggggggggg day! amelie slept in like a champ but did not take a nap and then didn't finally stay laying down in her crib until 11 p.m.....i didn't think i was gonna make it! this pregnant mama is feeling those nine months of baby making and is exhausted! yuck! i even bailed out on church early to come home and rest--whew! happily, amelie DID take a nap this afternoon and i got to go shopping with my mother in law and we procured amelie and maeve's super cool double stroller--it's awesome, i totally hope it's not too big to fit in my trunk...ha!
steve and amelie are currently at the park so i'm gonna lay down and take it easy (i wonder if i'll ever be too tired to blog? =-)

i rue the day...

...that she became a crib jumper.
